Idea
The project initially started when I was studying, working and traveling abroad. Every time my friends visited I have lived before they asked me to send recommendations of these places. After the 5th friend asking for the same list, I was sick of sending it through again. As you know out of every problem an opportunity evokes. Thus, I established my idea and decided to develop an application where you can share recommendations instantly. You, your friends and other can save places which will be automatically saved into your 100% personalised map. As a result, you do not have several lists to go through and filter what you like.
Expanding this project further, I implemented the top two travel trends: Solo- Travels and Food Tourism. By giving the users the opportunity to meet up at specified places (e.g. special Pizza Restaurant, hike, other) they have the chance to meet people. This can be when traveling or even in their hometown.
To finalize, you see where your friends have been and which places they have recommended and visit places you want and at the same time and connect with people, outside your network.
This whole process creates a feature of connecting and recommending places and experiences.
Folo is the perfect travel companion and makes your trip easy and successful. No bad restaurants or loneliness anymore.
Name
FOLO. What does this even mean or come from?
When I was living in Sydney I visited a restaurant called FOLONOMO (For Love not money). I felt super inspired by this name and it never left my brain. Waiting at the gate, on my way to New Zealand I wanted to name my project and immediately thought of FOLO.
It sounds like „following“ someone, which has somehow the connection of a guide in a city and refers back to the initial idea – sharing & recommending places
Research
For the research we started with general desk research. Going further we conducted surveys and set our target group. Once we clearly defined our target group we interviewed 5 people from diverse countries and backgrounds.
This helped us to generate an empathy map.
With the empathy map, we visualised the users needs to then identify our persona.
Project Status
In February 2022 we launched the MVP.
Today, we have around 600 users of which approx. 30% are active users. We are currently working with the Bourros marketing agency together to design a pitch deck, foster our vision/ mission and raise capital.
